How do I tell the country from a plate?

Look for the country code: on EU plates it sits on the blue band on the left (D for Germany, F for France); elsewhere it is next to the flag or on its own. Without a code, the plate colour, character format and wording help — type the plate or a code into the search above.

What do the letters on the blue band mean?

They are the international code of the country of registration: D is Germany, A Austria, PL Poland. The blue band with the EU flag replaces a separate country sticker when travelling within the EU.

Can I find the owner from a plate?

No. The region code only shows where the vehicle was registered. Owner details are closed and available to the authorities only.

Can I print a plate from the generator?

No. The generator picture is not a licence plate: it may not be fitted to a vehicle and does not mean the combination is free. It is fine for mock-ups, presentations and games.
