How to read the plate
A Jordanian plate reads: a one- or two-digit code, a dash and a number of up to five digits, with the country's name in Arabic above JORDAN on the left. The code shows the vehicle type, not a region: most codes up to 49 are private cars, 36–47 vans, pickups, trucks and motorcycles, 50–60 taxis, buses and heavy vehicles, 70 rentals. Government bodies get letter codes, such as AQ for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone; that too is a plate type, not a region.
Region codes
Plates in this country do not show the region — you cannot tell it from the plate.
History
Until 2007 plates measured 335×155 mm; then Jordan moved to the European size. Since August 2025 the single-digit codes 1–9 have been sold to private owners, and government vehicles have received letter codes.
