How to read the plate
A São Tomé and Príncipe plate has white characters on black inside a thin white border: the letters STP and two pairs of digits separated by square dots, with a series letter at the end since 2001 (STP·87·63S). Neither the island nor the district is shown.
Region codes
Plates in this country do not show the region — you cannot tell it from the plate.
History
The current series has been issued since 1998, with the final letter added in 2001. Before that the Portuguese colonial scheme (S.. / STP-00-00) was used; no details about it could be gathered.
