Who we are

OpenVan.camp is a multilingual hub for road travel. Most of the site is our own work: fuel prices, the VanSky weather index, tools, calculators, guides, and editorial content are created and maintained by us. The News section works differently — it's an aggregator: it collects headlines, short excerpts, and metadata from third-party sites and provides direct links to the original publications. We do not reproduce, store, or distribute the full text of third-party articles or works.

This approach follows the common practice of news aggregators (Google News and similar platforms), which compile links to publicly available content for informational and navigational purposes.

What's ours and what's aggregated

Fully our own work (not borrowed):

  • Fuel prices (/tools/fuel-prices) — data manually verified against sources by our editorial team
  • VanSky — a weather index for travelers, calculated using our own methodology
  • Site tools and calculators
  • VanLife Weekly and the What's New section
  • Guides and editorial articles (/author/editorial, /about)

Aggregated with attribution (News section only):

  • Headline and short excerpt (not the full article text)
  • Preview image (thumbnail) with source attribution
  • A direct link to the original publication on the source site

The OpenVan.camp administration respects the intellectual property of others and is ready to promptly respond to legitimate requests from rights holders — this applies to News section materials.

Each news item on the site includes:

  • A headline and short excerpt (not the full article text)
  • A preview image (thumbnail) with source attribution
  • A direct link to the original publication on the source site

We do not store or reproduce full article texts. All content is attributed to its source.

Use of images

Images in the News section are used exclusively as preview thumbnails to illustrate news items. We:

  • Process images through a third-party proxy service — source images are fetched, scaled down to thumbnail size, and served through a third-party image processing service (wsrv.nl). Images are not stored permanently on our servers. We do not claim ownership of the original images.
  • Attribute the source — a source attribution is shown under each image
  • Use images for informational purposes only — solely to identify and navigate news items, in line with fair use principles
  • Promptly remove images upon a valid request from the rights holder

Disclaimer for third-party content

OpenVan.camp is not responsible for verifying the accuracy, completeness, availability, timeliness, copyright compliance, legality, or quality of any third-party materials indexed by our service in the News section. We do not endorse or guarantee the content of third-party sites. Links to third-party resources are provided solely for informational and navigational purposes.

How to file a complaint (DMCA / takedown)

To request removal of a News section item, send written notice to:

[email protected]

The notice must include:

  1. Description of the copyrighted work — what exactly belongs to you
  2. URL on our site — the specific page addresses where the allegedly infringing material is located
  3. URL of the original source — a link to the authorized version of the material (if applicable)
  4. Rights holder information — full name or organization name, email, mailing address
  5. Good faith statement — a statement that the use of the material is not authorized by the rights holder, its agent, or the law
  6. Accuracy statement — a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate, and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act on the rights holder's behalf
  7. Nature of the request: full removal of the link and annotation / removal of the image / change of the headline or description

Counter-notice procedure

If you believe content was removed from our site by mistake, you may submit a counter-notice. A valid counter-notice must include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature
  2. A description of the removed material and the URL where it appeared before removal
  3. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the material was removed as a result of a mistake or misidentification
  4. Your name, address, phone number, and consent to the jurisdiction of the competent court

Counter-notices should be sent to: [email protected]

Opt-out for source site owners

If you are the owner or authorized representative of a site whose materials are aggregated in the News section and want to restrict indexing, send a request to [email protected] specifying:

  • your site's domain;
  • the requested action — stop adding new items / remove already added items / stop using images from the domain;
  • information confirming your authority to manage the site (e.g., access to email or DNS on that domain).

Once your authority is confirmed, we will review the request and report the action taken within 5 business days.

Response times

We process incoming requests in priority order:

  • Images: removed within 24 hours of receiving a valid request
  • Text materials / links: reviewed within 48 hours
  • In urgent cases, we aim to respond faster

Automatic attribution

For News section materials, our service automatically:

  • Displays the name and domain of the source for each news item
  • Places direct links to the original publications
  • Shows copyright attribution under images
  • Sends traffic to source sites through links

Bad-faith notices

By sending us a takedown notice or counter-notice, you confirm that you are acting in good faith and providing accurate information. Knowingly false statements about ownership of rights or authority to act as a representative may result in liability under applicable law and are grounds for refusing to process the request.

Personal data in notices

Contact details and other information provided in a takedown notice or counter-notice are used solely to verify the request and to communicate with the sender. We do not share this data with third parties, except where necessary to resolve the dispute (for example, with the source of the material) or where required by law. Please do not include personal data in your notice that is not necessary for reviewing your request.

Automated translation and AI processing

News headlines and descriptions may be translated, summarized, or grouped using artificial intelligence technologies. Such automated processing may contain inaccuracies and may not always precisely convey the nuances of the original content. AI processing is used solely for indexing and navigation purposes. For reliable information, always refer to the original source via the provided link.
