Custom text: real plates never carry this combination.
This image is not a license plate: it must not be fitted to a vehicle and does not mean the combination is available.
How to read the plate
An Algerian plate has three groups of digits: the serial number (up to five digits), then three digits — the vehicle category and the last two digits of the year of manufacture — and finally the two-digit wilaya code. In 56789 120 34, the 1 means a passenger car, 20 the year 2020 and 34 the wilaya of Bordj Bou Arréridj. The wilaya code is the place of first registration and does not change when the owner moves.

History
The wilaya-code-at-the-end principle has been used since the 1960s; the number of wilayas grew from 15 to 31 and then to 48 in 1984. Codes 49–58 appeared in January 2022 for wilayas created in 2019. Codes 59–69 for the 11 wilayas of 2025 will be issued from 1 January 2027. White front plates have been issued since 2018.
