How to read the plate
A New Zealand plate has three letters and three digits run together (FAR441), black on white. The series is nationwide, so the region cannot be told from the plate. Personalised plates of up to six letters and digits also exist.
Region codes
Plates in this country do not show the region — you cannot tell it from the plate.
History
Plates in their present form have been issued since 1964, and the ABC123 format has been used since 2001. Earlier series had no regional codes either.
