How to read the plate
A Chadian plate is written as one run in the CEMAC style, for example 12V3456B. The first two digits are the province code (18, N'Djamena, is the most common), and the next letter is the vehicle type (V for cars, C for off-roaders and vans, M for motorcycles, B for buses, P and T for trucks). Then come four digits and a series letter. On the right are the CEMAC emblem and the letters TCH.

History
CEMAC-style plates have been issued since 2001: codes 01–18 follow the regions of 2002, and codes 19–22 were added in 2008. Before 2001 the number began with a three- or four-letter prefecture code (TBA for Batha, TMK for Mayo-Kebbi). In 2012 the Ennedi region was split in two; sources do not say which code the second part received.
