How to read the plate
The Republic of the Congo plate follows the French pattern: three digits, two series letters and at the end the one- or two-digit registration zone code (229 EA 2). For example, 4 is Brazzaville, 6 Pointe-Noire, 5 Kouilou. Zones 1–14 mix departments and towns (Nkayi, Ouesso, Dolisie) and reflect the country's division before 2002. On the left are the CEMAC emblem and the letters RC.

The scheme with a zone code at the end has been used since about 1982, and the CEMAC design with the emblem since 2006–2008. No codes have been found for departments created later (Cuvette-Ouest and, since 2024, several more).
