How to read the plate
An Uzbek plate reads left to right: a framed two-digit region code on the left, then a letter, three digits and two more letters (30 A 674 PA), with the flag and a blue UZ on the right. Company vehicles have three digits and three letters after the code (01 123 ABC). Each region has a block of codes sharing the first digit: Tashkent 01–09, Tashkent Region 10–19, Samarkand Region 30–39 and so on up to Karakalpakstan with 95–99.

History
The current plates have been issued since 1 October 2008. From 1998 to 2008 codes 10–23 were used (e.g. 10 and 30 for Tashkent, 14 for Samarkand Region, 23 for Karakalpakstan); those plates had to be replaced by 1 January 2011. Before 1998 Soviet series were used.
