How to read the plate
A Kosovo plate starts with the two-digit district number: 01 Pristina, 02 Mitrovica, 03 Peja, 04 Prizren, 05 Ferizaj, 06 Gjilan, 07 Gjakova. Then come the Kosovo coat of arms, three digits, a dash and two letters (01 999-AD). On the left is a blue field with RKS in gold, without the EU stars.

RKS plates have been issued since 6 December 2010 and have been compulsory for residents since 1 June 2012. In 1999–2010 UNMIK plates in the format «123 KS 456» without a region code were used — they are still issued for trips to Serbia. Before 1999 Serbian and Yugoslav plates with the town codes PR, KM, PE, PZ, UR, GL and ĐA were issued here.
