How to read the plate
A Lebanese plate reads left to right: a blue strip with the word لبنان, a white cedar and خصوصي (private), then a Latin letter and a number of up to six digits. On private cars the letter is the registration centre: B Beirut, Y Aley, G Jounieh, O Ouzai, N Nabatieh, S Sidon, T Tripoli, Z Zahle. Other letters (M, P, C, D, J, R, MP) mark the plate type, not a region.

The first plates of 1945 had no letter codes. The current system with a registration-centre letter dates from 1998; the letter A was used on plates issued before 1998. The design with the blue strip appeared in December 2017.
