How to read the plate
A Beninese plate is a national series of one or two Latin letters and four digits (AE 8888). On the right is a map of Benin in the flag colours with the letters RB, next to the inspection sticker. It shows no region. The background colour marks the category: white for private cars, orange for commercial vehicles and taxis, blue for government ones.
Region codes
Plates in this country do not show the region — you cannot tell it from the plate.
History
In the Dahomey era plates carried the letters DY, later RPB (People's Republic of Benin); according to the available sources there were no region codes then either. The current series has been issued since the early 1990s, and decree 2013-349 reformed registration.
