How to read the plate
A Panamanian plate has two letters and four digits (AB1234) or, on older ones, six digits; a light-blue band with PANAMÁ runs along the top and the year of issue is at the bottom. The series is nationwide and shows no region. Panama Canal Authority vehicles have plates starting with CP.
Region codes
Plates in this country do not show the region — you cannot tell it from the plate.
History
The AB1234 format has been issued since 2013. Until 2007 plates carried the name of the province, which was then replaced by the word PANAMÁ.
