Custom text: real plates never carry this combination.

How to read the plate
A Chinese plate reads like this: the one-character abbreviation of the province (京 for Beijing, 粤 for Guangdong), a Latin letter for the issuing authority, a dot and five characters — digits and at most two letters, without I or O (京A·12345). The letter usually stands for a prefecture-level city: A is the provincial capital, the rest follow by importance; large cities may have two letters (浙A and 浙M for Hangzhou, 川A and 川G for Chengdu). In Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing the letters are not tied to districts. Ordinary car plates are blue with white characters; electric cars get green plates one character longer.

History
The current format was introduced under standard GA 36-1992 from 1994 (the GA 36-2018 edition applies today). Before that, in 1986–1994, plates had two lines, and a 2002 trial design in four cities was soon withdrawn. Codes of abolished prefectures and the special O series (police and state bodies) are no longer issued in many provinces, nor are 粤X/粤Y for the Shunde and Nanhai districts (until 2018). Green plates for electric cars appeared in 2016–2018.
