Privacy Policy
1. General provisions
This Privacy Policy (the "Policy") sets out how personal data of users of the OpenVan.camp website (the "Site") is processed and protected.
OpenVan.camp processes personal data of Site users in accordance with this Policy.
Contact email: [email protected]
2. What data we collect
We may collect the following information:
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, operating system, time of visit
- Behavioral data: pages viewed, links clicked
- Email address — when you voluntarily subscribe to the weekly digest
- Cookies and similar technologies to improve the user experience (more details — in the Cookie Policy)
- Data submitted with news: the link URL, a pseudonymized hash of your IP address (SHA-256) — to prevent spam
- Data submitted when reporting an issue: issue type, comment text, IP address
- Data collected when following short links (go.openvan.camp): IP address, browser type, operating system, device type, referring URL
- IP-based geolocation (automatic, on every request): the country is determined using a local database (MaxMind) for content personalization — without sharing data with third parties
- Precise device geolocation (only at your request): used on the map and in some tools (e.g. the fuel cost calculator) only if you click the locate-me button yourself. Coordinates are processed on our own server (no external geocoding services) and are not shared with third parties
3. How we use the data
The data we collect is used to:
- Improve the operation of the Site and the user experience
- Personalize the news feed based on your region (determined by IP address)
- Analyze site traffic and user behavior
- Ensure Site security and prevent spam
- Send the weekly digest to the email address you provide (only with your consent)
- Analyze the effectiveness of social media publications (via short links)
4. Legal basis for data processing
We process your data on the following grounds:
- Consent — for sending email newsletters and using analytics cookies. You may withdraw your consent at any time
- Legitimate interest — for collecting technical data, analytics, ensuring Site security, and preventing spam
For users to whom the GDPR applies, these grounds correspond to Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, respectively.
5. Third parties and services

- Listmonk (self-hosted) — email newsletter management, no data shared with third parties
- Google AdSense — currently not active on this site.

6. Use of artificial intelligence
We use AI technologies to process news content (not users' personal data):
- Translation of article headlines and descriptions into supported languages
- Clustering — grouping similar news using semantic embeddings (Jina AI)
- Classification and relevance scoring of materials
Article texts from public sources may be sent to external APIs (Jina AI, DeepSeek, OpenAI) for processing. Users' personal data is not shared with these services.

The Site's servers are located in Europe (Germany).
