Prices are collected by our own parsers across 133 countries — we aggregate open government and industry data, normalise it, and refresh weekly. OpenVan.camp is itself the source of truth for the prices shown here and used by the calculator.

Can I calculate fuel costs for a multi-country road trip?

Yes — click 'Add segment' to add multiple countries to your route. The calculator shows the fuel cost per country and the total for your entire trip.

What currency does the calculator use?

The table and calculator display prices in the currency you pick from the top menu (currency icon in the header). On first visit we try to match it to your country via IP, but you can always switch manually.

Where do fuel prices come from?

This is OpenVan.camp data. We run our own scrapers across 133 countries against open sources (government portals, industry sites, exchanges), normalise to a single format, and update weekly. Full table with trends — on the fuel prices page; the calculator uses exactly this dataset.

Where is fuel cheapest in Europe?

The lowest diesel prices in Europe are typically found in Poland, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Belarus. The Netherlands, Finland, and Sweden are traditionally the most expensive. See the full comparison on the fuel prices page.

How much fuel does the Berlin–Barcelona route need?

The distance is around 1,900 km. At 10 L/100 km you'll need about 190 litres. The route passes through Germany, France, and Spain — each with different fuel prices. Enter the segments into the calculator above for an accurate estimate.

Does the calculator work for motorhomes and campervans?

Yes. Just enter your vehicle's real fuel consumption — typically 12–18 L/100 km for a motorhome, or 10–14 L/100 km for a tow vehicle. Diesel, petrol, and LPG are all supported.

Can I calculate an electric vehicle trip?

Yes. Switch fuel type to "Electric" and enter consumption in kWh/100 km. The charging price is auto-filled per country from our EV tariff database — separately for home AC and public DC fast charging. You can override it with your own price. Route and distances are calculated the same way as for diesel, petrol or LPG.

What kWh/100 km consumption should I enter for my electric car?

Use your car's real-world figures: Tesla Model 3 — 16–18, VW ID.4 — 18–20, Renault Zoe — 15–17, Nissan Leaf — 16–19, BMW iX3 — 18–20, Hyundai Ioniq 6 — 14–17 kWh/100 km. In winter and at motorway speeds consumption can be 15–30% higher — factor this into your planning.

Which European countries have the cheapest EV charging?

Based on our EV tariff database, the lowest home charging rates are in Bulgaria, Hungary and Poland (0.10–0.15 €/kWh). Public DC fast charging is more expensive everywhere — 0.40–0.70 €/kWh. Use the Home/DC toggle in the calculator to compare costs per country along your route.

What Determines the Price of Fuel

The pump price is made up of several components: the commodity price of crude oil and refined products, excise duty and VAT (which can account for up to 60% of the retail price in some EU countries), and distributor and forecourt margins. Each EU country sets its own excise rate above the common minimum — which is why the Netherlands and Finland are consistently among the most expensive markets, while Poland and Bulgaria remain among the most affordable.
