How to read the plate
On Niger's 2005-series plates the first digit is the region code: 1 Agadez, 2 Diffa, 3 Dosso, 4 Maradi, 5 Tahoua, 6 Tillabéri, 7 Zinder, 8 Niamey. It is followed by a series letter and four digits (8H 7654), with a round sticker spot between the groups. On the right are the map of Niger and the letters RN. The front plate is white, the rear one orange.

Before 2005 plates were black and the region digit stood at the end, after the letters RN (AB 7074 RN8). The numeric series appeared in 2005. After a 2017 reform vehicles were re-registered until the end of 2020; according to a single secondary source, the new AA-1234 plates show the region as two letters on the right (NY for Niamey, AZ for Agadez), with no official confirmation.
