How to read the plate
A Salvadoran plate has a class letter and six digits in two groups with the coat of arms between them: P171-737. P is for private cars, C for trucks, A for rentals, M for motorcycles. EL SALVADOR and the year are at the top, the blue and white stripes of the flag in the background; there is no region.
Region codes
Plates in this country do not show the region — you cannot tell it from the plate.
History
The current design, issued by the Vice-Ministry of Transport (VMT), has been in use since 2011. The sources record no regional codes on Salvadoran plates.
