How to read the plate
A Timor-Leste plate is white with a black border: two and three digits separated by a dot (14·875), with the letters TL at the bottom. The national series shows no region; sources do not explain what the first two digits mean. The exception is the Oecusse enclave, where the letters OE come first (OE·30·002).

The current plates have been issued since 2002, after independence. In Portuguese Timor plates carried the letters T or TP. In 1976–1999, under Indonesian occupation, the territory had the Indonesian code DF.
