How to read the plate
Since 2013 the Gabonese plate resembles the French one: two letters, three digits and two letters separated by dashes on a yellow background (CC-444-AA). It shows no region — numbers are national. On the left is the CEMAC emblem, on the right the flag map of Gabon with the letters RG, and below the frame REPUBLIQUE GABONAISE.

History
Before 2013 the number looked like 1234G5A: digits, the letter G (Gabon), the province digit 1–9 and a series letter. The province digits match the ISO 3166-2 codes (1 for Estuaire … 9 for Woleu-Ntem). According to an amateur reference, large towns had subcodes such as GL1 (Libreville) or GP8 (Port-Gentil).
