How to read the plate
A Burundian plate has a letter, four digits and a letter (C 0100 A), black on white at the front and on yellow at the rear, in a black border. On the left are the flag and the letters BU, although the country's official international code is RU. The sources do not say whether the first letter is a series or a province, so it is treated as a series.
Region codes
Plates in this country do not show the region — you cannot tell it from the plate.
History
The current series has been issued since 2009. No information on earlier Burundian numbering systems was found in the sources.
