How to read the plate
A Trinidad and Tobago plate has letters and up to four digits, white on black: PBJ 4763. The first letter is the class: P for private cars, T for commercial vehicles, H for rentals; the following letters run alphabetically. The system is shared by both islands, so Tobago cannot be told from the plate.
Region codes
Plates in this country do not show the region — you cannot tell it from the plate.
History
The British 520 × 111 mm format is used; black characters on white are also allowed. The sources do not say when the current system began.
