Official tripticket rules: private passenger cars of Egyptians residing abroad, foreigners and tourists may be temporarily released for a maximum of 6 months in the year, but not exceeding the foreigner’s permitted stay shown in the passport. Separate, shorter rules apply to trucks (2 weeks + 2 weeks possible extension) and cars arriving with tourist groups (max 1 month). For non‑resident foreigners generally, customs law also sets a 6‑month maximum for temporary admission of vehicles and yachts.[7][8]

Egyptian Customs Authority (headed by El-Shatat Ghatori) on the revised rules for the temporary release of private cars belonging to foreigners and tourists: 'maximum of six months per year'; fees — '$100 or equivalent for the car's first three months or part of it' and '$175 or equivalent for the next three months or part of it'; 'The permits can be extended for additional periods'. The Carnet de Passage requirement is confirmed only by motoring-club sources (AIT/FIA), not by the primary source. The publication does not give the decree number and no official text was found on the customs website — hence medium confidence.
