SUNAT’s tourist page says the permit is linked to the tourist’s own authorized stay; the vehicle’s stay can be extended if the tourist’s stay is extended by immigration. If the vehicle is not owned by the traveler, the vehicle stay cannot exceed the rental/possession document term.

SUNAT, "Vehicles for tourism when entering Peru": "The period is the one granted by the customs authority in the Temporary Entry Certificate, and it is the same period of stay granted by the immigration authority." ... "Where the immigration authority has not granted a period of stay ..., the vehicle is allowed in for up to 90 calendar days." ... "Yes, you may request an extension from Customs; to do so you must first obtain an extension of your stay as a tourist from Immigration and then submit it together with the Extension Request Form." max_days=90 is the default when no period of stay is stamped; the main rule is that the vehicle's period equals the driver's period of stay.
