TRA and related EAC rules state a 12‑month limit for temporary importation of vehicles and goods, but a separate (non‑customs) U.S. Embassy note says tourists’ cars are admitted for 14 days, extendable in 14‑day steps up to 3 months. The 12‑month customs ceiling is the legal maximum for temporary import; in practice, immigration stay or shorter administrative limits may constrain tourists to a shorter period.

Vehicles and goods imported temporarily shall be re-exported (taking back) within a period of twelve months from the date of importation.
