Temporary vehicle import to India
A visa and a vehicle are different law: the person and the car are given their terms by different authorities, and those terms need not match.

Tourist temporary import is normally under a Carnet de Passages/CPD for up to 6 months per entry; CPD advisory notes a possible additional 6‑month extension on request, but this is discretionary with Indian Customs and practice can vary.
Vehicles may be temporarily imported into India for a period of six months under cover of a CPD. This period may be extended for another six months upon request to the Customs.
