Temporary vehicle import to Malawi
A visa and a vehicle are different law: the person and the car are given their terms by different authorities, and those terms need not match.
- Maximum term
- — Same as the driver’s permitted stay
- How the term is counted
- together with the driver’s stay
- Carnet de Passages
- Not required
- Extension
- Possible
The 30‑day TIP rule applies to private tourist vehicles. Commercial vehicles also get a maximum of 30 days. Carnet de Passages is not required; Malawi uses its own Temporary Import Permit system.
In respect of private vehicles, TIPs should be issued for a period of 30 days… Extensions of the period of validity of any TIP may be granted by FAST offices in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu only.
