Volkswagen, in collaboration with startup Stuff Bubble, has developed the California Beach Air concept featuring an inflatable bed and kitchen with a combined weight of under 22 kg. The modules can be quickly installed before a trip and removed afterward, turning the vehicle into a regular six-seater. The bed measures 200x134 cm and can be used as a double or split into two separate sleeping areas. The kitchen consists of two modules: one includes a water supply system and an electric tap, the other serves as a work surface with storage. The kitchen weighs less than 10 kg, the bed about 12 kg. The manufacturer estimates the set is roughly 82 kg lighter than a traditional camper setup. The concept will be presented at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf from August 28 to September 6, 2026.
