Ames to debate drought emergency plan and motorhome overnight parking ordinance

The municipality of Ames (Galicia) will hold an ordinary plenary session on May 22 to discuss the municipal drought emergency plan after incorporating corrections requested by Augas de Galicia. Also on the agenda is an ordinance on motorhome parking and overnight stays, aimed at strengthening legal certainty for users and operators and promoting sustainable tourism. Additionally, the council will consider approving a rural road improvement project with a subsidy of €54,446.

Lanzhou selected as pilot city for auto market reform

China's Ministry of Commerce and seven other departments on June 23 released a list of 40 pilot cities for auto circulation and consumption reform. Lanzhou became the only city in Gansu province selected, focusing on RV camping. Other cities include Chengdu (motorsports, classic cars, used cars), Tianjin (car modification), Yangzhou (RV camping), and Yinchuan (motorsports). Nine departments also issued 17 support measures, including simplifying RV campsite approval, building dedicated parking for motorhomes and towable RVs, and promoting green, smart, and lightweight RV production.

Kintore caravan park expansion put on hold after neighbour complaints

Aberdeenshire Council has deferred a decision on the expansion of Hillhead Caravan Park near Kintore, scheduling a site visit to assess road access concerns. The application by Sutherland Park proposes adding 12 touring pitches and 13 holiday lodges, plus a new amenities building. Neighbour Callum Fraser, whose property is surrounded by the park, argued the changes fail to address privacy and road safety issues. A previous proposal for 18 lodges was rejected in October 2024, and an appeal to the Scottish Government was unsuccessful.

New EU safety requirements for motorhomes and campervans take effect July 2026

From July 7, 2026, all new motorhomes, campervans, and self-converted vans registered in the EU must be equipped with a set of mandatory safety systems. These include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, reversing assist, intelligent speed assist, driver drowsiness detection, alcohol interlock preparation, and tire pressure monitoring. Market observers estimate the added cost at €1,000–€3,000 per vehicle. The rules also apply to DIY van conversions, which may be treated as new registrations and must meet all factory standards.

China bans sleeping and showering in moving motorhomes from 2026

From March 1, 2026, a new Chinese standard prohibits using beds and showers in moving motorhomes. At speeds above 5 km/h, the system automatically locks the shower and warns occupants to leave the sleeping area. Between 2022 and 2024, 183 accidents occurred due to using living facilities while driving, causing 47 severe injuries and 12 deaths. Manufacturers like Yutong and SAIC Maxus are developing safety systems, and 500 new service area hookups will be added by 2026.

Five types of special vehicles, including motorhomes, included in pilot program

On June 22, the Hainan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology announced that the production of five types of special vehicles (fire trucks, motorhomes, ambulances, medical vehicles, and campers) is included in a pilot program for duty-free processing增值. No more than 15 companies registered in Hainan may participate, with mandatory ERP and video surveillance. A 'negative list' bans imports of passenger cars, SUVs, and vehicles priced above 90,000 yuan (excluding VAT).
