Camper Fire at Kossuth County Fairgrounds Destroys Motor Home, Killing Family Cat

A fire at the Kossuth County Fairgrounds in Algona, Iowa, destroyed a 2005 Holiday Rambler motor home and killed a family cat on Thursday evening. The owners, Timothy and Kerissa Hall of Des Moines, escaped injury and saved their dog before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The fire is believed to have started in the rear bedroom, possibly from a roof air conditioner. The interior was a total loss.

RV towing a vehicle engulfed in flames on Highway 89 near Pilgrim Creek Road

Fire crews from multiple agencies battled a multi-vehicle fire on Highway 89 near Pilgrim Creek Road after an RV towing a vehicle caught fire, according to the Cal Fire Siskiyou Unit. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Aug. 6. The RV and the towed vehicle were fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Highway 89 at Bigalow was closed to through traffic while crews extinguished the fire and investigated its cause.

White Township, Pa., Reviews RV Parks for Energy Workers

The White Township (Pa.) planning commission on Wednesday (August 5) reviewed final site plans for two proposed RV parks to support incoming Homer City Energy Campus workers. The Cartesian Company & Park Group Construction presented a plan for a 140-unit RV park at 4600 Lucerne Road. The commission also reviewed Ron Marsh's plan for two sites at 87 and 91 McLain Road, accommodating six travel trailers. Finalized plans are pending; approval is expected if they comply with township code.

Go RVing Seeks RVs for Upcoming Activation, Reports Success of New Events

Go RVing unveiled its new experiential activation space in 2026, debuting at the first two events of the season. At the Scouting America National Jamboree in West Virginia, three RVs were showcased, attracting 7,613 consumer tours. At the U.S. Open of Surfing in California, five RVs drew 32,440 tours. The organization is seeking three RVs for the upcoming Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, scheduled for Oct. 3–11. Manufacturers interested in providing a display unit can contact Dana DelVecchio by Aug. 24.

Lewiston Woman Severely Injured After Camper Top Flies Through Windshield on Hwy. 14 Near Dover

A camper top attached to a vehicle being towed by an eastbound truck broke free and flew into the windshield of a westbound SUV on Hwy. 14 near Dover, Minnesota, Wednesday evening. The SUV driver, 21-year-old Kaydence Rita Plank, and passenger, 42-year-old Carrie Lee Elliotplank, both from Lewiston, were taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Elliotplank suffered life-threatening injuries; Plank's injuries were non-life-threatening. The tow truck driver was unharmed. All involved were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol was not a factor.

LA Program Moves 400 People Living in RVs into Temporary Housing

A city program in Los Angeles has placed 400 people living in vehicles into interim housing, Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez said Wednesday. The RV-to-Home Program, which began as a pilot in 2022 and expanded citywide, operates at a lower cost per person than other homelessness initiatives. Funding included a $320,000 grant from the Hilton Foundation, $350,000 in discretionary funds, and $5 million from California Encampment Resolution Funding.

RVIA Marks Great American Outdoors Day With Funding Push

The RV Industry Association marked Great American Outdoors Day by urging Congress to reauthorize the Legacy Restoration Fund (LRF), created in 2020 to address deferred maintenance on public lands, now exceeding $40 billion. The fund expired on September 30, 2025, and requires reauthorization. In March, the association met with administration officials, and during Advocacy Day, 103 partners supported the America the Beautiful Act, which would extend LRF. The Senate bill has 68 cosponsors, the House bill 222. Examples of funded projects include campground rehabilitations in Rocky Mountain, Zion, Yosemite, and Mark Twain National Forest.

York firefighters extinguish RV fire at Libby's Oceanside Campground

Firefighters in York, Maine, extinguished a fire in an RV at Libby's Oceanside Campground on Aug. 4. The call came in at 6:20 a.m., with light smoke visible. The fire was contained within 10 minutes, heavily damaging the rear of the vehicle and causing moderate heat and smoke damage to the rest. The cause is under investigation but appears accidental. Occupants evacuated before firefighters arrived; no injuries were reported.

Sunnyvale updates 72-hour parking ordinance to address public safety concerns

The Sunnyvale City Council updated the city's 72-hour parking ordinance to address public safety concerns. Vehicles must now move at least 1,000 feet after 72 hours and cannot return to the same spot for 24 hours. Renting vehicles for habitation on public streets is prohibited. Enforcement began in June, with citations or towing at owner's expense for violations.

Folding trailers (500–1000 kg, €5,000–25,000) offer good aerodynamics and comfort, while roof tents (e.g., Maggiolina by Autohome for nearly €5,000) provide panoramic views but require attention to roof load limits (usually 70–80 kg).

RV resort firm buys Sekiu's Mason's Olson Resort, Van Riper's Resort

WayHaven Resorts, the consumer brand of Colorado Springs-based Bison Peak Ventures, has acquired two fishing resorts in Sekiu, Washington: Mason's Olson Resort and Van Riper's Resort. Mason's Olson Resort, opened in 1936, was sold for $5.7 million, with the deal closing on June 3. The company plans to upgrade the reservation system while maintaining a traditional approach for returning guests.
