Prices are set freely by companies, but all stations report in real time to the Markttransparenzstelle. In practice, prices follow Brent/ARA/Platts, EUR/USD, taxes and local competition; they can change many times during the day.

Taxes and levies

Energiesteuer, Mehrwertsteuer 19%, nationaler CO2-Preis, minor mandatory levies. Tax share higher on gasoline.

No direct subsidies. A temporary Tankrabatt was in effect in 2022 but has ended.

Motorhome completely burned out on road in Herdecke, no injuries

On the evening of May 16, 2026, a motorhome was completely destroyed by fire on Dortmund Landstrasse in Herdecke, Germany. Firefighters arrived within minutes, but the vehicle was already ablaze. On federal highway B32 near Altshausen (Ravensburg district), a 20-year-old female driver crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a motorhome. The motorhome driver and his passenger sustained serious injuries; the at-fault driver suffered minor injuries.
