Algovia Vans has unveiled the compact Escape 540 camper, built on the Stellantis platform (Opel Movano, Fiat Ducato, Citroën Jumper, Peugeot Boxer). The vehicle measures approximately 5.4 meters in length.

Layout highlights

The main innovation is the kitchen block located at the rear, rather than along the side wall. When the rear doors are open, the kitchen — equipped with a two-burner gas hob, sink, and 90-litre compressor fridge — becomes an outdoor cooking area. Inside, the cab seats swivel to form a dining zone, and there is a rear bench with Isofix anchors and a folding table.

Sleeping and equipment

The camper offers up to six berths: a transverse bed measuring 193×140 cm and two additional berths in the pop-up roof. Standard equipment includes a 105 Ah AGM battery, a Truma Combi 4 D diesel heating and water heater, fresh and grey water tanks of 112 and 90 litres respectively, plus 230 V sockets, USB-C ports, and an external CEE outlet.

Alpandeire to create a new motorhome area

The municipality of Alpandeire has started building a motorhome area on the outskirts of town, in the Cerrejón area, near the municipal pool and the Fray Leopoldo Interpretation Centre. The project, with a budget of €29,983, is funded by the Andalusian government under the Municipal Cooperation Plan. Works include levelling the site, installing water supply and wastewater drainage. The aim is to attract tourists and boost the local economy.

Retired couple moves into a motorhome: 'Camping site rent is much cheaper than a house'

Fernando and Ana, a retired Spanish couple, sold their home three years ago and moved into a 1999 Fiat Ducato Maxi motorhome nicknamed 'La Vaca'. They repaired it themselves for €1,631, far less than quoted by professionals. They report lower living expenses, with money left at month's end, unlike before. For the future, they plan to rent a camping pitch, which they say is cheaper than conventional housing.

Up to €250 a month for a 'zombie caravan' in an illegal camp: In Palma, they profit from those who can't afford rent

An illegal business has been uncovered in Palma de Mallorca, renting out old caravans as housing to people who cannot afford conventional rent. According to COPE, an individual has been importing caravans from mainland Spain for at least three years, placing them around the city for monthly fees starting at €250. Many caravans are in poor condition, lack technical inspections, insurance, or proper documentation, and use license plates from scrapped vehicles. The caravans are left unhitched on public streets, making them illegal encampments rather than legal overnight stays.
