The Fiat Ducato is an Italian light commercial van that has become the dominant chassis platform for European motorhomes and campervans — the majority of European factory motorhomes are built on the Ducato or its rebadged variants (Citroën Jumper, Peugeot Boxer).

In Italy, interest is growing in low-end motorhomes built by specialist manufacturers. La Gazzetta dello Sport selected models with base prices between 40,000 and 50,000 euros, around 450 cm long, mostly on Fiat Ducato chassis. Many novices start with used motorhomes. Prices refer to base versions without customisation.

Alain Marty, a 69-year-old former truck driver from Villeneuve-sur-Lot, moved into a converted Fiat Ducato after 42 years on the road in Europe. On a €2,000 monthly pension, he avoids rent, property tax and electricity bills, and uses apps listing bivouac zones to find free parking each night. The money saved on parking goes toward restaurants and social activities.
At Caravan Salon 2026 in Düsseldorf, six integrated motorhomes for the 2027 model year were presented with unconventional designs. Manufacturers from Spain, France, Italy and Germany are deliberately moving away from the classic white look to stand out in a saturated market. The new models include: Benimar Amphitryon A981 (from 79,990 euros, Fiat Ducato, 180 hp, length 5.98 m), Frankia Noctra Liner 7.6 L (from 157,900 euros, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, length 7.80 m), Mobilvetta K-Yacht Tekno Design (from 144,900 euros, Fiat Ducato, length 7.56 m), Mooveo INT-78 QBF Alko (from 88,867 euros, Fiat Ducato, length 7.89 m), Pilote Galaxy G740FGJ (from 87,900 euros, Fiat Ducato, length 7.59 m) and Roller Team Zefiro 287 (from 86,440 euros, Power Edition from 91,490 euros, Fiat Ducato, 140 hp, length 7.45 m).

Italian company Wingamm has unveiled the updated Oasi 540.1 motorhome for 2027. The price is 128,900 dollars (111,741 euros). The body length is 5.42 metres, and the maximum mass is 3,500 kg, allowing it to be driven with a category B licence. Equipment includes a 200 Ah battery, a 130 W solar panel with controller and a 2,000 W inverter, enabling gas-free operation with an induction hob. The chassis is based on the new-generation Fiat Ducato Euro 6D with an automatic gearbox. The monocoque fibreglass body, insulated tanks and Truma Combi diesel heater allow year-round use. The interior offers three sleeping places, a kitchen with a Corian sink and a ceramic toilet.

Malibu is promoting its new Relax 640 LE R camper van based on the Fiat Ducato with a starting price of €57,200, but this price does not include a mandatory equipment package. With one of three packages (Active, Ambition or Exclusive), the minimum price is €65,040. In the base Active configuration, the vehicle comes in white with a 140 hp engine and manual transmission.

German company VanTourer presented the Bagno Vario 2.0 at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, a bathroom that converts into a shower cabin in a few steps. The system will be standard on all 2027 models and is currently patent-pending. The 600 D (5.99 m, Fiat mechanics) starts at 68,100 euros, while the 630 L (6.36 m) starts at 71,179 euros.

French manufacturer Le Voyageur has unveiled its 2027 collection for its integrated motorhomes. Changes affect furniture, upholstery, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. Eleven upholstery variants in fabric and leather are offered, along with a new Eden wood decor. Standard equipment across both ranges (Eterna on Fiat Ducato and Héritage on Mercedes Sprinter) now includes a 360° camera, external gas socket, water filtration system, three-speed extractor hood, wine rack and Alde towel rail.
Promobil magazine conducted a comparative test of eight lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries designed for under-seat installation in motorhomes based on the Fiat Ducato. The tested models had capacities ranging from 200 to 350 Ah. The tHEnergy Bat Pro 325 US won with 80 out of 100 points and a 'very good' rating; its price is 1985 euros. Second and third places went to the Bulltron Polar 350 Ah (76 points, 1844 euros) and Renogy Pro 200 Ah (75 points, 1064 euros).
Trigano Group has introduced the Elnagh T-Loft 450 motorhome for the Spanish market. The model measures 6.99 m long, 2.35 m wide and 2.95 m high, and is based on a Fiat Ducato with a 2.2-litre 140 hp diesel engine paired with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission; a 180 hp diesel with automatic transmission is optional and adds more than €6,000 to the price. Standard equipment includes driver assistance systems, swivelling front seats, LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a winter package, diesel heating and a 200 W solar panel. Pricing in Spain starts at around €73,000 excluding IEMDT.
IMTEST tested the Sunlight CLIFF 540 RT Adventure Edition camper van based on the Fiat Ducato 8. The 5.40 m vehicle features a pop-up roof with an additional 2×1.50 m bed, providing four berths and four seats. Engine output is 103 kW (140 hp), and the test vehicle price is 61,985 euros. The review noted practical layout and a large 84-litre fridge, but also insufficient insulation and noise reduction in the pop-top tent, and no skylight in the rear. Overall rating: satisfactory (2.8).
German manufacturer Dethleffs has announced two new alcove motorhomes in its XL A range: the 8.56-metre XL A 7822-2 and the 7.30-metre XL A 6822-2. The alcove features two separate longitudinal beds measuring 80 centimetres wide and 1.92 and 2.06 metres long, with an interior standing height of 2.09 metres. The vehicles are based on the 180 hp Fiat Ducato Maxi with an AL-KO low-frame chassis and tandem axle, and include a heated double floor and hot-water heating. Prices start at 131,999 euros for the XL A 7822-2 and 121,999 euros for the XL A 6822-2.
German manufacturer Frankia from Oberhaid is radically restructuring its range: classic F-Line, Titan and Platin series are being discontinued, replaced by new models on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The new Noctra Liner (from €157,900) and Neo Liner (from €124,900) are built on Sprinter, while the Together Edition anniversary model (from €119,900 for alcove, from €143,900 for integrated) and Final Edition F-Line/Titan (from €139,990) remain on Fiat Ducato. From 2027, all Frankia motorhomes will be front-wheel drive only, with rear-wheel drive dropped from the program.

A new Fiat Ducato-based model offers a queen-size bed with access from both sides, a separate bathroom and a full living area. Compact analogues cost from 79,000 to 82,000 euros.
Retirees Fernando and Ana from France sold their house and moved into a 27-year-old Fiat Ducato Maxi motorhome, which they renovated themselves for €1,631. Previously, they struggled financially, running out of money by mid-month. Now they have savings left over, as they no longer pay mortgage, utility or garage costs, and use solar panels for energy.
Fernando and Ana, retirees in Spain, have lived for about three years in a 27-year-old Fiat Ducato Maxi motorhome they call “La Vaca”. According to their account, leaving their house eliminated fixed costs for water, electricity, condominium fees, garage and home internet. They carried out a wall repair themselves over five months at a cost of 1,631 euros, including exterior painting; Fernando said professional painting alone would have cost more than 3,000 euros. The couple admitted they had never calculated their expenses in detail but say they now have money left at the end of the month. According to INE, the median rent for new lease contracts in Portugal reached 9.46 euros per square metre in the first quarter of 2026, while the median price of transacted homes was 2,337 euros per square metre.
Sunlight, a subsidiary brand of Hymer, has updated its compact semi-integrated V60 motorhome line for the 2027 model year. The base version is now called Root and starts at 51,799 euros, while the Adventure version starts at 57,399 euros. Both are built on Citroën Jumper (Root) or Fiat Ducato (Adventure) chassis and measure 5.96 m long, 2.14 m wide and 2.74 m high. The Root offers two berths, with an optional third berth available for 349 euros.
Polish manufacturer Affinity unveiled the One 636 at the Caravan Salon 2026, with sales starting in 2027. The model replaces the characteristic high roof with a pop-up roof, increasing sleeping capacity to five. The base price is reduced to 81,700 euros from 92,245 euros for the previous version. Built on a Fiat Ducato chassis with automatic transmission, it measures 636 × 229 × 260 cm.

At Tokyo Camping Car Show 2026, Toy Factory presented the fully updated Da Vinci 5.4 camper on a Fiat Ducato base — an alternative to Toyota HiAce-based campers.
At the Caravan Salon, the Neckarvan Coastline camper was presented by a small manufacturer from Neckarsteinach, Hesse. The base version is built on a Fiat Ducato L3H3 (6 m, high roof), with an option for a Mercedes Sprinter. Length/width/height: 5.99/2.05/2.76 m, gross vehicle weight 3.5 t, 2 berths. Equipment includes an induction hob, 70-litre compressor fridge, shower with dry separation toilet, 280 Ah lithium battery, 60 A solar charge booster, 2000 W inverter. Base price from 119,000 euros.
