In 2025, overnight stays increased by 8.2% to 5.2 million, with the majority in Ticino (1.04 million). The top spots are mostly small campsites with ratings from 4.79 to 4.88 stars. The leader is Ferienhof Rüti (4.88) in Schwyz, which has no tent pitches but offers spaces for motorhomes and vans.

Motorhome overturns on A23 near Müllheim TG

On Saturday, a heavy motorhome and a semi-trailer truck collided on the A23 near Müllheim TG. The motorhome broke through a guardrail, overturned, and came to rest on its side on the opposite carriageway. The 50-year-old driver sustained minor to moderate injuries, and his 74-year-old passenger minor injuries; both were taken to hospital. The affected section of the motorway was closed for several hours.

Winterthur voters reject camping renovation, AL launches new initiative

In a referendum, 53% of Winterthur residents voted against renovating the Schützenweiher campsite. The city council sees no legal path to allow permanent camping there. In response, the Alternative List (AL) party, together with campsite residents, launched an initiative demanding a new camping project with at least one-third of the area designated for alternative housing.

Motorhome as mobile meeting and support space

In Switzerland, the 'Rencar' project has been launched — a motorhome converted into a mobile meeting and counseling point for marginalized groups. Fricktal campsites satisfied despite industry bottlenecks

The Swiss campsite association Swisscamps warned of potential shortages during peak season after the closure of 13 sites in Valais due to natural hazards and one in Bern for nature conservation reasons. Operators in the Fricktal region have so far felt little impact, as their clientele consists mainly of local tourists, transit travelers, and Dutch visitors. The decisive months for assessing the situation will be June, July, and August.
