Motor vehicle tax for campers to increase significantly in 2026: what you'll pay for a van camper, alcove, and (semi-)integrated models

The motor vehicle tax (MRB) for campers in the Netherlands will double in 2026, increasing from a 75% discount to a 50% discount compared to a standard passenger car. This results in substantial annual cost increases, for example, an estimated €1,032 more for a van camper with a weight of 2,900 kg. The higher costs are attributed to the vehicles' weight and, in many cases, heavily taxed diesel engines.

Camper pitches open on dairy farm in Stompetoren

Vincent and Roos Smit have opened 16 camper pitches on their dairy farm in Stompetoren, Netherlands. The project was launched after a bank required additional income to finance a new insulated roof with solar panels. Preparations took 1.5 years, including permits and soil/nitrogen studies. Guests check in via QR code; the farm also has a shop selling raw milk, beef, and homemade dairy products. Early reviews are five-star.

Vantrack Lightcamp: modular camper kit for Kia PV5 electric van

Dutch company Vantrack has unveiled the Lightcamp concept, a lightweight camper conversion for the Kia PV5 Passenger electric van. The kit features a slide-out sleeping platform, a portable kitchen, and a rooftop tent that can be easily removed for daily use. Sleeping capacity is four: two on inflatable Exped pads inside and two in the roof tent. The production version is set for September 2025, with complete vehicles starting at €65,000.

First motorhomes arrive for jubilee edition of Fiets4Daagse Meppel

The first motorhomes arrived on Tuesday at Sportpark Ezinge in Meppel, where a temporary campsite is set up for the 40th edition of Fiets4Daagse Meppel. The organization expects between 1,200 and 1,300 participants, who will cycle various routes through the area starting Wednesday. The official campsite opening was at 1:00 PM, but the first motorhomes were already on the parking lot by 11:00 AM. This year features a notable number of French participants: about 60 motorhomes will first cycle in Meppel and then travel to Heerenveen for the opening of the European Cycling Week.

Chase after stolen caravan ends in arrests in Drunen

On Tuesday afternoon in Drunen, police spotted a vehicle towing a caravan that was registered as stolen. When officers attempted to stop it, the driver fled at high speed through the town center, causing multiple dangerous situations and even trying to push a police car off the road. After about five minutes, the vehicle entered a dirt track where it got stuck; both occupants fled on foot but were immediately arrested. They face charges including attempted manslaughter, handling stolen goods, causing danger, and failing to stop. No injuries were reported.
