Overnight rules for campers and motorhomes tightened in Portugal

Since 2021, a law prohibits sleeping in a vehicle between 9 PM and 7 AM outside designated areas, with fines up to 600 euros. Following criticism, an exception was added: in most areas except nature reserves, overnight stays are now permitted for up to 48 consecutive hours, but this mainly applies to motorhomes rather than camper vans.

The case highlights the danger of using non-sterile tap water for nasal hygiene, particularly in recreational vehicle systems where biofilms can form.
