Caravan fire caused by solar panel system damages adjacent structure
A fire broke out in a caravan in the Yedikonuk area of Cyprus. According to preliminary police information, the cause was a short circuit in the wiring of a connected solar power system. The blaze completely destroyed the caravan and all belongings inside, and also spread to an adjacent prefabricated structure, damaging its equipment.

Caravans removed last week from Silver Beach in Gazimağusa by environmental and municipal authorities have been reinstalled on the shoreline. The vehicles were initially relocated to a parking area, but have since been brought back to the same spot.
Parked caravan catches fire in Famagusta
On 23 August 2026 at about 22:30, a parked caravan caught fire in Famagusta. The flames and high heat damaged two nearby vehicles: car NA 616 suffered burns to its right front and rear sections and roof, and its windshield cracked; car UH 041 had melting on its right front and rear fenders. The caravan's interior, including appliances, furniture, clothing and fishing gear, was largely destroyed. Fire crews extinguished the blaze; an investigation is underway.

On 23 August 2026 at about 22:30, a parked caravan caught fire in Gazimağusa. The blaze damaged its top and contents, as well as two neighbouring vehicles. The cause is being investigated.

The Environment Protection Department has intervened in the months-long caravan problem at Silver Beach. Department Director Yılmaz Altunterim stated that caravans must be removed from the area by 18:00, otherwise further action will be taken. The issue was previously highlighted by the media.

A new operation to remove caravans and illegal structures from a beach near the former oil refineries in Larnaca, Cyprus, has begun. Municipal and district crews removed three caravans and dismantled nine illegal shacks and makeshift constructions occupying public space. Asbestos was discovered in one of the structures, requiring specially trained teams in protective suits to handle the hazardous material. The operation follows a final warning issued on July 18 and complements an earlier sweep on a nearby beach, where six caravans were removed after 12 owners complied.
