A campaign for designated stopover areas warns that bans on overnight parking for motorhomes and campervans in popular areas are deterring tourists. Campaigners call for more official 'aires' instead of outright restrictions.

The proposed Welsh tourism levy of £1.30 per person per night will disproportionately increase the cost of holidays for touring caravan and motorhome owners. For a family of five paying an average pitch fee of £25, this equates to a 26% cost increase, compared to just 1% for a guest in a five-star hotel. Industry associations are calling for a review of the taxation system.

A collision between a car and a caravan has closed the A71 road in both directions. The incident occurred this afternoon near East Calder, with emergency crews at the scene. Photos show a Mini Cooper crashed into a large caravan with debris scattered across the road.

Approximately two-thirds of the 3,000 responses received were from motorhome owners, with most opposing the restrictions.

At least ten caravans and motorhomes have pitched up in Preston Park, Brighton, on April 3. Similar incidents occurred previously, including in August 2023 when approximately 12 caravans arrived at the park.

British converter Sussex Campervans has unveiled a camper van based on the Kia PV5 electric van. The vehicle offers a WLTP range of 416 km and features a pop-up roof for additional sleeping space. The estimated starting price is around €80,000.
