How fuel prices are formed

Regulated

Every 2 weeks

High

Regulator

Vlada Republike Hrvatske / Government of Croatia; maximum price formula based on a 14-day period.

Since 2022, the government regularly sets maximum retail prices using a formula based on the base fossil fuel price from the previous 14-day window and a capped premium/margin. Published decisions used limits around `0.1545 EUR/L` for gasoline and diesel, with separate limits for blue diesel and LPG. This is one of the clearest `regulated` cases in the EU.

Taxes and levies

Excise duty, VAT, capped premium/margin, special rules for blue diesel and LPG/UNP.

Subsidies

No direct subsidies, but price caps effectively restrain transmission of global peaks.

Camper Van Tourism Is Booming in Croatia

Camper van and motorhome tourism is booming in Croatia as more travelers seek flexible, mobile exploration of the country. Key drivers include the ability to move spontaneously between beaches, islands, and coastal towns without fixed hotel schedules. Croatia's long coastline, scenic roads, and compact distances make it particularly attractive. However, the boom also brings challenges: overcrowded campsites, illegal parking, and pressure on coastal infrastructure, especially in environmentally sensitive areas.

Traffic jams from Slovenia spill into Croatia: kilometer-long queue near Zaprešić

On Saturday, Croatia saw the start of the first major tourist weekend, while neighboring countries enjoyed a long weekend due to the Pentecost holiday, causing severe traffic congestion on Slovenian roads that partially extended into Croatia. Slovenian television reported kilometer-long queues on the Ljubljana bypass, where a camper van overturned, closing the road for several hours; no injuries were reported. The Croatian Automobile Club reported a queue of about 2 km at the Zaprešić toll plaza on the A2 highway.

Why Every RV and Travel Trailer Owner Needs an Emergency Traction Kit This Summer

The article explains why RVs and travel trailers frequently get stuck on soft gravel pads in campgrounds, especially after rain. Key causes include dual rear wheels concentrating weight and highway-rated tires lacking off-road grip. Tow truck calls for RVs in 2025-2026 averaged $400 to $1,200, with many national park and Forest Service campgrounds inaccessible to standard wreckers. An emergency traction kit (a steel claw that straps to the drive wheel) is recommended, rated for vehicles under 30,000 lbs GVW.
