According to the summer 2026 barometer, Brittany leads in travel intentions for motorhomes and campervans with 33%. Nouvelle-Aquitaine ranks second with 14%, Normandy third with 11%. In 2025, CAMPING-CAR PARK recorded 4.85 million overnight stays (+15% from 2024), paid €24.3 million to partner municipalities, and estimated €85 million in revenue for host regions. Foreign customers account for over 42% of visits.
Opened in mid-June, the motorhome area in Geudertheim, near Strasbourg, has already recorded over 300 overnight stays. Visitors include tourists from Germany, the UK, and other European countries. The site is located 70 km from Cologne, attracting motorhome travelers.
Since July 1, 2026, a paid motorhome area with 22 spaces has opened in Giromagny, in the Territoire de Belfort. It offers electricity, drinking water, and waste disposal. The area was inaugurated ahead of the Tour de France passing through on July 17, but is currently only partially occupied. The French Senate has passed in first reading a bill aimed at simplifying the forced removal of illegally parked caravans. The text, adopted by 235 votes to 101, would cut the notice period to 24 hours and the appeal window to 24 hours, and would add environmental damage to the grounds for eviction. It also lowers the threshold for mandatory reporting of mobile home groups from 150 to 100 units and doubles the fine for illegal installation on another's land to 1,000 euros. The bill has been sent to the National Assembly.

On August 5, 2026, a converted Volvo B10M bus, measuring 12 meters in length, was displayed at the motorhome area in Guerlédan (Côtes-d’Armor). An abandoned caravan on the D71 road between Trigance and Comps-sur-Artuby in the Var department has not been removed for weeks despite multiple reports. Inside, mattresses, candles, matches, and cigarette butts were found, raising fire risk near the forest. Authorities cannot identify the owner due to a missing license plate. Abandoning a vehicle can result in a fine of up to 1,500 euros.
Narvana van, a French company, has created a bicycle caravan that can be towed by a bike. The model is lightweight, with a 2-meter-long bed and 1 meter of interior height. On August 4, a new motorhome area was inaugurated at the Le Verger campsite in Dompierre-sur-Mer. Six schools in Normandy now allow camper vans to park in their yards on weekends and holidays for 12 euros per night. Half the revenue goes to the school, which could earn up to 10,000 euros a year.
In summer 2025, French campsites recorded 125 million overnight stays, nearly half of all collective tourist accommodations. Offerings have diversified from traditional tents to glamping, while pitches for tents declined by 13.2% from 2019 to 2024, and equipped pitches rose by 17.3%. Sociologist Jean Viard notes that holidays have become a crucial time for rest and social connection, and the COVID-19 crisis only amplified pre-existing desires for nature and freedom.
The editors of ROADBIKE and promobil conducted a joint test of the Ahorn Camp A690 motorhome during a Tour de France stage in the Vosges. A family with three children used the vehicle for the first time, combining race viewing with an assessment of the living space. The experience was documented in a report.
