According to BOVAG and KCI, new motorhome sales in the Netherlands fell to 1,853 units in the first half of 2026 (from 1,888 a year earlier), while used sales dropped 8% to 8,889 units. The reason is the increase in vehicle tax from 1 January 2026 (from a quarter to half the rate), rising fuel prices and eco-zone restrictions.
Caravan sales, by contrast, rose: new ones by 10% to 4,805, used ones by 1.9% to 8,277.
From 1 July 2026, a road toll for trucks applies, which does not apply to motorhomes registered as living quarters, but requires checks for imported or converted vehicles. New motorhomes must be equipped with safety systems, including lane keeping, emergency braking and preparation for an alcohol interlock. Insurers advise owners to check registration with RDW, weight and actual use of the motorhome.
