In Brief

German manufacturer Bürstner, part of the Hymer Group, will completely cease caravan production from the 2027 season. The company will focus on motorhomes and camper vans, while maintaining service and spare parts for existing customers.

Bürstner, a pioneer in the industry founded in 1958, has announced it will stop producing caravans from the 2027 season. The decision is part of the "Bürstner Reloaded" strategy, driven by declining demand for towable caravans in Europe.

Reasons and statistics

In 2025, 54,200 new caravans were registered in Europe — 11% fewer than the previous year. In Germany, the decline was even steeper: 18,766 registrations, down 13.4% from 2024. The caravan market has not recovered from the post-pandemic boom, unlike the motorhome segment.

Consequences

Production facilities in Kehl (Germany) and Wissembourg (France) will be repurposed for motorhomes and camper vans. About 40 jobs were previously cut at the two plants, but management says no further layoffs are planned. Full service and spare parts supply for existing Bürstner caravans will continue.
