According to the industry association CIVD, 63,329 new motorhomes and caravans were registered in Germany in the first seven months of 2026, 3% fewer than in the same period last year. In 2025, the decline was 2.3%. Registrations of motorhomes fell 3.3% to 50,118, while caravans dropped 1.9% to 13,211.
The decline is attributed to weak economic conditions and high consumer spending, prompting buyers to postpone major purchases. One source also mentions unsold pandemic-era inventories. Sales have been falling for the second consecutive year after the pandemic boom, when demand was fueled by fears of infection and restrictions on air travel. CIVD head Daniel Onggowinarsko considers the situation normal and expects a market recovery once the economic situation improves.
The Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, opening August 28, is expected to host over 830 exhibitors, surpassing last year's record of 810. According to one source, at least 250,000 visitors are expected.
