Rare Citroën CX Tissier models considered precursors to modern camper vans

The French coachbuilder Tissier created unique elongated versions of the Citroën CX in the 1970s, including camper models. One such motorhome, the 'Penthouse', was over six meters long, had six wheels, and was based on the sporty CX GTi. Its fiberglass rear section housed a living area with a kitchen, a bathroom including a bidet, and an electrically rising roof.

Couple evacuated from Gironde fires awaits fate of their caravan

Sheilla and Gilles Perronno, vacationing at the Grand Crohot campsite in Lège-Cap-Ferret (Gironde), were evacuated due to wildfires and repatriated to their home in Saint-Hilaire-la-Gravelle. They still do not know if their caravan survived. The fires destroyed thousands of hectares of forest and forced thousands of holidaymakers to leave.

In La Forêt-Fouesnant, books take to the road in a caravan

For the seventh year, the media library of La Forêt-Fouesnant operates a summer mobile library in a converted caravan. Until August 20, it stops every Thursday morning at various locations in the commune, including the garden at the quay, the Izel Vor garden, and the Îlot Skoën, and this year also in front of the Kerleven nautical center. Visitors can read on site, and at 11 a.m. a story is read aloud.

Drunk driver destroys roundabout in Pyrénées-Orientales with motorhome

In Reynes (Pyrénées-Orientales), a drunk driver crashed his motorhome into the roundabout at the entrance to the commune on the evening of July 30, causing significant damage. The mayor announced plans to file a complaint, stating the driver was in a state of obvious intoxication. The roundabout featured heritage elements, including carts from the former talc mine, which were destroyed.

Saint-Juéry: Kombucha van attracts market-goers

At the market in Saint-Juéry, France, Céline Montolio presents naturally fermented drinks from her converted van, including kombucha made from French tea grown in Roussillon. She is the only producer in Occitanie making such kombucha. Her products are certified organic, alcohol-free, unpasteurized, and contain no preservatives. She also offers ginger beer and kôso made from fermented raw plants, as well as oak-aged kombucha vinegars. Montolio sells at several markets in the region.

Challenger Sport Edition: compact camper van with transformable bathroom

French manufacturer Challenger has introduced the Sport Edition camper van based on the Citroën Jumper. The vehicle is 5990 mm long and 2050 mm wide. It features a Vario bathroom with a rotating wall that converts the space into a shower or toilet. The living area seats four, and the rear has a transverse double bed. The walls, roof, and floor use IRP composite material without wood. Diesel heating runs from the fuel tank. The base price starts at €51,490.
