Comparison of Standard 7-Meter Caravans: Dethleffs, Fendt, and Knaus

Promobil magazine compared three typical German caravans approximately 7 meters long with identical floor plans. The Dethleffs Summer Edition 470 FR, Knaus Südwind 500 FU, and Fendt Bianco Selection 465 SFB models, despite sharing a standard design with a U-shaped sofa and a French double bed, are aimed at different buyers and feature differences in details.

Large Caravan, Greater Range in Consumption Test: Why Aerodynamics Beat Weight

Tests revealed that a larger and heavier Fendt Bianco caravan consumes less energy than a compact and light Next 380 when towed by the same vehicle. Aerodynamics proved to be the key factor: the caravan's shape impacts fuel consumption and range more than its mass, especially at speeds around 100 km/h. The tests were conducted at the Bosch proving ground in Boxberg using a Tesla Model Y electric car and a diesel Skoda Karoq.
