Poland abolishes tolls for passenger cars towing trailers

President Karol Nawrocki has signed an amendment to the Public Roads Act that abolishes tolls on national roads for passenger cars towing caravans, even when the combined weight exceeds 3.5 tonnes. Previously, the 3.5-tonne threshold triggered a toll; under the new rules only the towing vehicle's weight matters. The change takes effect upon publication.

President Andrzej Duda signed an amendment to the Public Roads Act, exempting passenger cars and light commercial vehicles towing trailers – including caravans, boat trailers and private tow dollies – from tolls on national roads. Previously, tolls applied when the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer exceeded 3.5 tonnes; under the new rules, only the weight of the towing vehicle matters. The e-TOLL system had charged such combinations between 0.20 and 0.65 PLN per kilometre.

President Karol Nawrocki signed an amendment exempting some passenger cars and light vans towing trailers from e-TOLL road charges. The same law expands the list of offenses that can lead to a five-year driving ban for driving while a three-month license suspension is in effect. From March 30, 2026, police will automatically suspend licenses for three months for drifting or riding a motorcycle on one wheel; ignoring that suspension can result in an administrative five-year ban.

The bill also grants industry training centers authority to run courses for professional drivers and introduces stricter penalties for intentional drifting.
