A fire broke out in caravans early on Friday morning at a site of the Mazovian district of the Polish Angling Association in Poland. The alarm reached the emergency services and at 6.07 two crews from the fire and rescue unit in Pułtusk were sent, along with volunteer firefighters from Pokrzywnica and Trzepowo. When the first crews arrived, the fire was already fully developed and had caused serious damage.
During their assessment, rescuers learned that a woman was inside one of the burning caravans. She could not be saved and died in the fire. A man was also injured and suffered burns; details of the extent of his injuries and his condition have not been given. The age and identity of the woman who died have not been released either.
Four caravans were completely destroyed and a fifth was partly damaged. Firefighters tackled the flames and secured the area. The operation ended at 8.43, two hours and 36 minutes after the first crews were dispatched. Police then worked at the scene and will establish the causes and circumstances of the tragedy, including how the fire spread to the other caravans. It is not yet known what started the blaze.
