On Sunday, a head-on collision between a camper and a tourist bus occurred on the Terni-Rieti superhighway in Italy, killing six people and injuring 34. Among the dead are the drivers of both vehicles and four passengers. The two victims in the camper were Giampiero Colasanti and Daniela Bellanca, returning to Umbria after attending a motorcycle club event in San Pio delle Camere.
A third passenger, a 46-year-old woman, was in the camper and survived. She is hospitalized at Santa Maria hospital in Terni in serious condition but conscious. Police have seized dashcam footage that may clarify the circumstances of the crash.
The Terni prosecutor's office has opened a case of negligent homicide. The cause of the accident is under investigation; sudden driver illness or dangerous overtaking have not been ruled out. The bus driver tried to avoid the impact but failed. Forensic tests, including toxicology, have been ordered.
