Crash Chronology
On Sunday afternoon, August 2, on the Terni-Rieti highway near Colli sul Velino (border of Umbria and Lazio), a head-on collision occurred between a bus, a camper and three cars. According to source 4, six people died: both bus drivers, two passengers and two people in the camper. Source 3 also reports six dead (both bus drivers, two passengers and two in the camper), agreeing with source 4. Source 5 reports five dead (three in the bus and two in the camper), contradicting other data. Source 6 specifies that among the dead were tourists heading to the Marmore Falls and camper occupants returning to the Terni area; no minors were among the dead.
According to source 4, the camper, traveling toward Terni, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the bus heading toward Rieti. Source 2 also says the camper driver crossed the center line. Source 1 specifies the accident occurred on state road 79 in the province of Rieti (Lazio). Source 4 reports 30 injured, five in critical condition, airlifted to hospitals in Rome and Terni.
