Spaniard reveals real costs of living in a motorhome

Spanish content creator Juanma López, who lives full-time in a motorhome, says his monthly expenses exceed 1,000 euros. The largest cost is fuel at about 400 euros per month, followed by groceries at 350 euros and restaurant meals at 150 euros. He also pays around 90 euros for Starlink satellite internet and 80 euros for campsites, laundry, gym memberships, and other services. López disputes the idea that motorhome living is cheap, noting that costs vary with distance traveled.

Hymer recalls campers over faulty ISOFIX weld

German manufacturer Hymer has recalled camper vans of models AYERS ROCK, BMC, BML, EXSIS, FREE, FREE S, GRAND CANYON, GRAND CANYON S, ML-T, YELLOWSTONE and YOSEMITE. A defective weld on the ISOFIX mounting bracket could break in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to children in attached child seats. The measure took effect on 8 July 2026, was notified by Germany, and the product fails to comply with EU vehicle approval and market surveillance regulations.

Custom Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 costs $300,000

US-based Custom Crafted Vans has completed its 58th project — a family motorhome built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 with a 170-inch wheelbase. The conversion cost about $300,000, with the base Sprinter billed separately. The motorhome features a shower, toilet, kitchen with induction hob, and two sleeping areas, including a pop-top roof. The company builds only 5-6 vehicles a year, and the waiting list has grown to six months.

Bulgarian authorities order removal of caravans and tents from Karadere beach

Nearly 1,000 caravans, campers and tents were identified during an inspection on Karadere beach near Byala, Varna region. Owners must remove the structures by 7 August 2026 or face fines between €250 and €1,500. The mayor of Byala issued a ban in April, yet the 5-km coastal strip remains occupied. Dunes are strictly off-limits for any installations and vegetation damage.

Toyota Land Cruiser 78 becomes camper for 5,499 AUD — Summit Vans drops pop-top

Australian builder Summit Vans has introduced a conversion kit for the Toyota Land Cruiser 78 Troop Carrier that does not require a pop-top roof. The base furniture kit costs 5,499 AUD and excludes a fridge, battery, water system and installation. The module includes an L-shaped bench that converts into a 1,910x965 mm bed and a bamboo worktop. Factory assembly in Wollongong starts at 8,499 AUD, with a production lead time of three to four weeks. The vehicle is cramped for full-time living: standing height is not possible inside, and the bed is mainly for one person. However, it retains standard height and can still be used as a regular off-roader between trips.

Skoda adds Camp Mode to electric cars for overnight stays

Skoda Auto has released the MySkoda 8.14 update with Camp Mode, which maintains the cabin temperature overnight via the app. The feature requires no extra accessories or service visit; the traction battery must be at least 30% charged and Skoda Connect services active. It is compatible with the entire electric lineup: Epiq, Elroq, Enyaq, and Peaq, regardless of model year or software version.

Development of motorhome stopovers in Romanian wine regions

A pilot project to create infrastructure for motorhome tourists in wine regions has been launched in Romania, initiated by VINARIUM and ADI Ținutul Vinului. The project includes a demonstration tour of Prahova wineries to assess existing infrastructure and inform landowners. Europe has over 12,000 such sites in France and 8,000 in Germany, while Romania has about 20. Minimum investment for a basic 4–6 pitch site is 15,000–40,000 lei, with average nightly fees of €15–35.

Toyota Hiace becomes a luxury motorhome: WALD to build only five units

Japanese motorhome manufacturer Direct Cars has teamed up with tuning shop WALD to create a special version of its Bruno model based on the Toyota Hiace. The interior has been redesigned with premium materials and black finishes, retaining the six-seat layout. Technical specifications and pricing have not been disclosed. The public debut will take place on July 11–12, 2026, at the Tokyo Camping Car Show at Tokyo Big Sight. Production is limited to five units.

Motorhomes popular among Romanians showcased at Cluj fair

The growing popularity of motorhomes in Romania was evident at a specialized fair in Cluj. Among the models on display was the Forster T699 HB, built on a Fiat Ducato chassis with a 140 hp diesel engine, measuring nearly seven meters in length and designed for four people. It features a fully equipped kitchen, shower and toilet, a double bed and an additional drop-down bed, a 142-liter refrigerator, Truma Combi heating, stationary air conditioning, a rearview camera, an awning, and large fresh and waste water tanks. The exhibited 2023 model with approximately 48,000 km was priced at nearly 60,000 euros. Compact Elnagh E-Van models, ranging from 5.99 to 6.36 meters in length, were also presented, with prices starting from 45,000 euros and reaching 52,000 euros for the Premium version.
